For Immediate Release

  • Athlete-led development initiative opens with vision to facilitate Hong Kong's next generation of world champions through bespoke funding support

  • Applications open from May 19 to Jun 27, 2025

HONG KONG, CHINA – In a move to uplift Hong Kong's sporting landscape, the Pinnacle Project today announced the opening of applications for its pioneering athlete development funding program. A non-profit initiative operated in partnership with the GDCD Association, the Pinnacle Project represents the city's first fully athlete-governed sports fund, with a mission to identify and nurture homegrown talent for international success.

A New Model for Athletic Development

The Pinnacle Project breaks from traditional sports funding models by putting competitive athletes at the heart of decision-making. A committee of six individuals with diverse sports backgrounds will oversee both selection and strategic direction.

"After years of competing internationally, I saw firsthand how our athletes often lacked the tailored support their global counterparts received," said Jonathan Hui, founder and committee chair. "The Pinnacle Project changes that equation – we're building pathways where Hong Kong’s most promising talents can get access to the additional support they need to progress further on the global stage"

High-Performance Ecosystem For Support

Selected athletes will benefit from:

  • Tailored financial packages addressing individual competition, training and equipment needs from a HK$ 2 million fund

  • Sports branding and PR development combines tailored media training designed to enhance each athlete’s story with assistance towards increasing media exposure to a wider audience

  • Global networking opportunities with international sports organizations and experts in relevant fields
